As a member of Westport's RTM, I am acutely aware that many of the serious problems facing the region cannot be solved without more effective representation at the state level. Whether it's the alarming growth of traffic on I-95 and the attendant environmental and economic problems, siting of cell towers or noise barriers, or the purchase of open space -- we have to make our local issues our state's priorities.
I am running for the legislature to speak up for senior citizens who are worried that rising property taxes (not to mention prescription drug prices) will force them to leave this community. I am running to speak up for your children and mine, for schools that are under pressure to provide quality education in the face of overcrowding, major school construction, and spiraling special education costs. I don't believe that we have made our case adequately in Hartford. It's time to have a State Representative who will get things done.
I will be part of the Democratic majority in the State Legislature, working for meaningful property tax reform, sensible gun safety legislation, and to advance our progress on issues of education, health care and women's reproductive rights, and campaign finance reform, which have always been the hallmarks of Democrats who care about the people of this state and nation.
I need your help to mount a vigorous campaign on these issues against a two-term incumbent whose votes with the Republican minority have not served us well. I hope I can count on your support to make this campaign the anchor for victory for the entire Democratic ticket in November.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions.
