Wow! Our 40th reunion was one that has to have topped all that came before it.

As Don Ulrich so aptly said, "the ease with which we re-bonded with each other given the length of time since we had seen the other members of the class of '66 was outstanding."

And John Gailmor is absolutely correct about the attributes of our class that were expressed by our teachers (one of whom is my mother-in-law, Doris Raymaley Bucky).

My wife Jill Raymaley Bossert (staples class of '67) has been telling me for years how exceptional our class was.

Well, guess what?...it still is!

When I look back over the past 40 years at everything this class has accomplished and is still contributng, it is truly amazing.

I am so fortunate to be a member of the class of '66.

As Jim Valvano (famous college basketball coach who died of cancer in 1993) said in one of his last speeches, "there are three things we all should do everyday. We should laugh everyday. Number two is think. You should spend time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special."

We weren't together for seven days at our 40th reunion, but i can tell you this, Idid all three things each day of the reunion that valvano talks about. And, he was right. I had a heck of a day...each day! And we indeed had something special.

My thanks to Ann Sheffer, Bill Scheffler, Lisa Kimball, and Johno Lupton for organizing everything.

Thanks too to the entertainers. Roger Kaufman and the old school revue, rob carlson, jon gailmor, and steve emmett...and with a little help from their friends like john coniglio.

Warm appreciation to Jerry Jones for the beautiful and moving memorial service saturday night in honor our deceased classmates.

How do you top the 40th reunion? You don't, unless you're part of the staples class of '66. Then you do it even better the next time.

I for one can't wait for the bigger and better 45th reunion.

See you there!

Scot Bossert

Important Information about Friday night parking!

The owner of the Georgetown Saloon called me with concerns about Friday
night parking. I've volunteered to let our reunion members park in the lot
at 73 Redding Road (Route 107). We have plenty of parking spaces available,
and I am President of the condo association that owns the building at 73
Redding Road.

73 Redding Road is on the north side of the street (Route 107), across from
the end of Main Street.

Last Minute Details

As of today, there are over 60 members of our class who are coming to the Reunion, plus about 40 guests!

I've had a few questions about logistics for the reunion -- most of the answers are somewhere on this site -- but here's the gist of it:

Friday night -- hopefully you've made a reservation -- any questions should go to Roger Kaufman at RZKTRoger@aol.com.

Saturday tour of Staples -- meet at 11 am by the front entrance (yes, it's in the same place, but you won't recognize it!)

Saturday night dinner -- 6:30 at 19 Stony Point Road (through the brick wall behind the train station, last house on street, watch for speed humps -- directions below.) Parking is tight, so you might want to park at the train station and walk in. Dinner is lobster, but we'll also have some chicken and burgers (including veggie) for those who prefer.

Dress code is casual and weather-dependent (we've had a soggy summer in CT) -- plus we went to school in the 60s so there is no dress code...

Sunday at the Beach -- there will be people there starting at about 11, if you want to come by early; there will be a brief service at 11:30, and lunch about noon. Look for the class banner near the cannons. Tell the nice young guard at the gate that you're with the Class of 1966 reunion.

You can always email me (annsheffer@stonypoint.net) with last minute questions -- or call me at 203-227-5522 or 203-451-1456 (cell) though I don't expect you to get lost in Westport -- it hasn't changed that much!

See you next weekend!

ATTENTION - ATTENTION - ATTENTION

There has been an addition to our Sunday at the Beach line-up. Our very own Reverend Steven Emmett has volunteered to lead us in a Sunday worship service. It's non-denominational and will be co-hosted by serveral of our classmates. This service will be held at 11:30 (giving us all a few extra hours of sleep) and as close to the cannons as possible. Watch for our "Reunion Banner" which will travel with us throughout the weekend.
After the service we will all move to the tent and tables to prepare lunch. REMINDER: No Glass is allowed at the beach. Also CT liquor stores close at 8:00pm Saturday evening.
PS If you prefer or have an early flight the regular church service hosted by Westport churches will be held at 8:30 by the cannons.

Register Now!

We have to have a count for the Clambake company by next Monday, July 24, so if you haven't registered (or know someone who hasn't) be sure to do it now -- or we can't promise you dinner! The beach picnic is more flexible, but we'd love to know how many are coming.

Dinner on Saturday night will begin at 6:30 -- directions and parking instructions will be posted in the next few days.

See you soon!

Inquiring Minds...

Have asked about housing...The Westport Inn (former New Englander) is very nice, but may be hard to get into. John Lupton recommends the Norwalk Inn (www.norwalkinn.com) -- there are a lot of other hotels in Norwalk and Fairfield that you can find online.

And about a tour of the new Staples...we're working on it! Details as soon as we have them.

"Sunday at the Beach"

Come Join Us for "Sunday at the Beach". All alumni admitted to Compo Saturday and Sunday. Just tell the guard you're with the "Staples Reunion - Class of 1966." We'll kick-off Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. non-denominational church service. Sponsored by a number of Westport churches. Service held up by the cannons. If rainy, down by the pavilion. At noon we'll gather on South Beach (as close to the cannons as possible). Watch for our tent and class banner. We'll have wraps, sandwiches, chips, cookies and sodas. It's BYOB (no glass). Reminder: CT liquor stores close at 8 pm Saturday night. For the first 100 attendees there will be a reunion Frisbee to take home. So Join Us.... Upper and lower classmates stop by looking for old friends.

Important Reunion News

The Friday night event (July 28th) at the Georgetown Saloon is coming together nicely. Because this is a small venue, everyone interested in attending should be aware of the following information on reservations.

There will be two sittings for tables and dinner at the Saloon. The early sitting will be any time up to eight (8) PM. The second sitting, which will include live music from the 1960s by Roger Kaufman’s great band, Old School Revue, with other Staples alumni guest artists performing begins at 9PM If you wish to stay for the music, you must make your reservation for the second seating…

When you make your table reservation (203 544 8003), you will be asked to provide a credit card which will be charged $15 per person in your reservation. 5$ is a cover charge for the band. The 10$ is a per person food minimum charge which will be deducted from your final bill.

If you are not planning to eat during the evening, you may still attend the event by joining everyone in the bar area. We’re working with the Saloon owners on the possibility of putting up a tent outside for those who just want to reunite with many of their classmates.

Everyone is encouraged to make their reservations as soon as possible so as not to miss this great evening. If you are not able to get into the Saloon, you can make a dinner reservation next door at Rancho Allegre, a really good Mexican eatery. The number there is 203 544 9464.

We hope to see everyone there for the fantastic Old School Revue’s “Evening of 60’s Music” kick-off to the Class of ’66 Fortieth Reunion Weekend…
